Blast Off
Ok y'all. This is it. The evening before we leave for our great Europe adventure. We are in a luxurious resort hotel in Colorado Springs, really preparing for roughing it in the eastern European mountains. We're practicing our beer-drinking skills and working on our tans, all key when you want to wrestle brown bears, wolves and probably vampires in Transylvania. Here is an initial post to get y'all hooked to reading our ramblings.
We have spent the last week road-tripping across the US from Tampa FL to Colorado Springs - our new home. The last few days we visited multiple Walmarts multiple times to buy anything from boot wax to head lamps. Now we are pretty convinced we are ready for six weeks of backpacking across Europe.
In typical Jo-and-Tosh-travel-manner we have planned this trip to the T: We are flying on a buddy pass/ standby (Thanks Rob! And Lil!) to Frankfurt, to head to Hamburg for a big family party. That's pretty much where the planning ends. We have a rough idea of which countries we want to visit and that we want to do some serious hiking along the way. But, that. Is. It. It'll be fun!
Here is what everyone in the family is thinking:
Tosh: The road trip started not so good, as we were weathered out of a Buffalo River canoe trip; there wasn't enough water the day we were there, and a big thunderstorm wasn't due until two days after. We went on to Wichita, which was more fun than expected, though. Then we stopped in Dodge City to take some pictures with Wyatt Earp statues; that was pretty fun. Finally, we arrived in Colorado Springs, and high altitude has created some gaseous Lancasters. Tut's nearly run me out of the room a couple of times; but I've been sure to return the favor.
We set off soon for Europe, and we've planned basically nothing. Typical; but I hate to narrow down what's possible by booking hotels/trips/planes/etc. I'm excited for the adventure.
Miles: I want to experience new cultures and immerse myself in them to gain knowledge of the lives of different places on the world. Also to wrestle a polar-bear with Dracula (if Dracula bites the bear, will it become A VAMPIRE POLAR-BEAR???).
Tut: I'm excited to go hiking and spending time with my family and seeing new things.
